Hi, I’m Maggie and I wear wear bilateral Cochlear Implants. I started losing my hearing when I was in 1st grade and wore hearing aids for a long time. My hearing was pretty stable (moderate hearing loss) until 8th grade when it started to get a little worse. During the summer before Sophomore year in high school, I woke up one morning to find I had lost all the hearing in my left ear. About five or six months later I got my first Cochlear Implant! I liked it a lot! I can hear better with it than I ever did with just hearing aids. I became bilateral during senior year when I lost the hearing in my right ear during the summer and got implanted in the fall. I loved hearing surround sound again. I guess it was something I always had taken for granted! I am heading up to college in a few days and I’m really excited! I’m going to major in English and Communications.

My hobbies include: Irish Dancing, reading, writing, piano, swimming, volleyball, knitting, writing letters to my pen pal and I am learning ASL. I hope someday I can get better at ASL and be able to communicate better with other deaf people who use it.
